When the Trumpet Sounds

This morning, while having my morning coffee, I opened the window next to me. Our cat loves to watch out the window to keep an eye on the birds. It's her hunting experience, lowering her ears and ducking her hear, like she is ready to pounce on unsuspecting prey.

After a few minutes I hear a loud sound, my first thought, "Is that a Trumpet?". I moved closer to the window to listen better. The sound seemed to be coming from a distance, which kind of excited me at first, thinking it was sign. As the sound continued, I listened intently and couldn't quite make out what it was. It almost sounded like a tornado warning siren, but almost had some rise and fall in the sound, like a emergency siren. In any case, it had my attention for several minutes.

Listening to this sound and wondering if a supernatural event was about to take place, it made me think of 1 Thessalonians 4:16 (NASB) For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

The Apostle Paul was comforting the Thessalonians, where some thought if they died before Christ's return, they would miss out on eternity with Jesus.

Just like anyone that is uniformed of the need to have Jesus in their life, as verse 13 says, they have no hope. But if we believe Jesus is the Son of God and died and rose again for our salvation, there is hope and is name is Jesus.

Verse 16 is where my day started, when I heard that sound, I listened intently for several minutes. Then my attention turned to v. 17 and wondering about those still alive, I started watching my hands and arms, thinking I might de-materialize, like a Star-Trek transporter traveling through space.

Now, I'm no Star-Trek geek or even claim to be the most righteous Christian around, but my faith is such that I do believe God the Father sent his Son, Jesus to this earth to die for us on the cross.

So if the sound of what might be a trumpet doesn't excite you, you might need to dig a little deeper in your bible and add some time to your prayer life. We are not expected to be perfect, but there is some expectation of bearing fruit. Worshipping God through prayer and immersing yourself into the Bible are examples of bearing fruit.

1 Thessalonians:

4:13 (NASB) But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.

4:14 (NASB) For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.

4:15 (NASB) For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.

4:16 (NASB) For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

4:17 (NASB) Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

4:18 (NASB) Therefore comfort one another with these words.
